Abstract on Paper
City Memory
Pablo Ramon Benitez
Grey as the material of cities, concrete, sky, the inside of memories. A bolt of blue cuts through the upper register like a structural line, something architectural. Below it, the painting opens into colour: red bursts, green trees, figures in yellow that might be people or might be light.
This is a painting of accumulation. Of a place remembered in fragments, seen from above and from within at the same time. The line work traces routes, streets perhaps, or the way the eye moves through a crowd.
It contains a whole city, compressed into paper.
